This channel is all about progression on a mountain bike. For years I have always just constantly been afraid of doing things on my bike, filming myself riding makes me accountable for chickening out on jumps, gnarly features - and it lives on the internet forever! So join me in this story of just getting better on a mountain bike. Cheers Punters!

She Rode Her First Black MTB Trail On An E-Bike
Started racing XC in 1995, by 2000 was only running FS bikes. I'm 60 now, don't race anymore, rarely hit black diamond trails and exclusively run a hardtail. 100mm fork, Specialized Chisel frame, 2.400" tires, 750mm bars with 25mm of rise, no dropper post and weights 24lbs. I like the simplicity, not out to be the fastest guy but in smooth flo'y single track it is nimble, fun to ride and like passing the youngsters on their 150mm travel bikes. If I was still riding technical downhill would have a bigger hit bike.
riding faster is a sign of a better rider?
Those trails almost made me cry of jealousy. Great Video! "If you're not racing it's not cheating". This is gonna be my goto quote when I get Ebike hate comments... Got a Turbo Levo a month ago love it..
I miss the Punter
I only ride my local Burbank mountains because of my eMTB. love it! So much joy!
To anyone who hates on Ebikes, watch this dude laughing. Remember the last time the slow rider was doing anything but when they finally caught up? What would you give to have them in the pack with you laughing and chatting along instead of that look on their faces that says this is the last place they want to be, questioning if they will even show up next ride... From multiple points of frustration hoping off the bike because there is nothing in the tank, being sandbagged by faster riders (let me just go ahead and lead for a while... oh, where'd he go?) it's suffering, to the truest meaning. Yeah yeah, "just get in shape". There is plenty of reason that just isn't realistic. Jobs, kids, family, house chores or maintenance.. even just down to body type, and I'm not talking weight, just the simple some people will not be able to develop the stamina needed to enjoy a ride with riding buddies that will put up with being slowed down. I feel more guilty holding up a fast rider than being the sandbagger having an E-bike. Even when ebikes weren't a thing, I would have much rather seen slower riders up ahead giggling and laughing with the rest of us then suffering as they crest that monster hill and everybody saddles up to go because the tail is in sight. Let them all ride Ebikes if they want, even encourage it if it gets friends out riding instead of holding back because they don't want to anchor that day. Share some laughs, grab their pack and shuttle up that hill with them even if just for giggles. Just don't challenge them to a race up the hill for a beer, that could get costly. There is a place for "just get in shape", though there's more merit in getting people out enjoying biking in the first place.
For lazy people who want to dress the part, but take away their Electric capability and they'd never keep up with a proper mountain biker or gravel biker. I see them all the time, they like to look down at regular bike riders i have noticed too. But i just say, remove the battery and do a 20 miles bike ride without all the assists and see if you can keep up then. They think they are special and powerful, haha, right K ends. They have attitude and are mostly arrogant e-bike riders are. They dont get they are riding a massive heavy dead weight. E-bike riders do not impress me, they are cheats, end of. They are also not as fit as they make out. So dont look down at ne on my 1 grand regular gravel scott mountain bike, Cheers.
For some weird reason you seem to be the only one looking down on others here. Why would you even care what others ride
A big 29 feels extremely nimble & light when you ride a 250cc + dirtbike... 😂
just came across your channel.. What is that antenna on side?
What ever happened to the movie you made?
Has anyone tested if you can fit a C02 can with the EDC in a Fox 38 Factory?
To me what 95% of MTB videos are about is gnarly, demanding downhill track rides. To me that is just a small fraction of what MTB is, and honestly not even my favourite. I love flat, natural flow trails, technical uphill single tracks, and just biking for the trip, enjoying nature and the fun of seeing it from the bike.
But is a xc bike ok for normal use
It seems to this old rider who has spent LOT"SA $ on bike parts over the years that the question should not be " What is better ? ", because " better " is not the same as " Different". If you buy a bike with a set of nice wheels and get another set ( of either material) the new wheels make the bike feel like a whole other bike.. I have 3 bikes now with 'carbon rims' ( 2 have an extra set of alum. rim/wheels in a bag) & a few I haven't swtched out yet. You cannot ignore the cost factor either.
I know this is an old video but I want to thank you for it. My dad is super old school and was never enthusiastic about E-bikes. He is 66 and not as strong as he used to be so he just couldn't keep up with me on casual rides anymore. Showed him this video some time ago and gradually convinced him to get an Ebike. Today he finally got one and I haven't seen him happier! Now he has to wait for me!
The frame is very capable just upgrade components as you go. I got the hunt trail wide V2 wheels, I put a Shimano XT group set and a fox factory 38 upfront. In time I will be upgrading the rear suspension to a fox float x2. The thing is a trail monster! Best bike I’ve ever owned
I just picked up the 2024 trance x. Dude, amazing trail bike.
I love your vids, but this is such wanky whiney reasoning. You dont have to associete with elitist or dangerous encouraging bikers. You dont have to ride risky features. You dont have to make money doing it as a career. You don't have to ride a lot. You dont have to associete with brands. I understand taking a total break, but eventually you gotta come back to it at least in a limited way. Just ride safe trails once a month for the exercise and connecting to nature. I can relate in terms of skiing for me; I skiied alot from age 4 to 20 and then got kinda bored of it, mixed with the investment of time and money to ride and get out there, I do it alot less now. But i didn't quit entirely, that would be so silly. Now I just ride a couple days a season, I cherry pick the best conditions and still have a blast. Golf is OK but it isnt excersise in the same way. Hiking is great but you can't tell me its more enjoyable all the time. I mix the two.
That drop at 7:40, can do on XC hardtail (~13kg) with 100mm fork, but with a dropper engaged. :)
my 7-8year old xc merida big nine have 29 and i like it :), i still interested to put dropperP on it because i want more movement/controll "downhill", aso I have the old 3x8 gears and intrested to upgrade it to like 1x12 or 14 for easier gearing on the trails :)
I wonder if leading the way for a bit might have been helpful in letting the person watch an experienced rider
Thats rly nice, good trail for people like me to train how get the bike on side, off the ground and to get used to driving with higher speed
I had an enduro bike and now i got one fun dh bike and 1 race dh bike and im never touching anything that isnt a dh😂
Right around the 27 minute mark you're talking about not understanding why people want to ride a mountain bike because it's dangerous. I ride my bike as much as I possibly can. But I know my limits and I very rarely ever crash and the crashes are never too serious. People might look at me and say how are you ever going to get better if you never go beyond your limits but I'm also almost 50 and have to work to provide for me and my family. That does not mean I can't find ways to enjoy it. I love when I go for a ride and I record my ride on Strava and realize I just set a bunch of personal bests today and that makes me happy. That lets me know I'm improving. You don't have to risk life and limb on a mountain bike for it to be fun.
The first half of the video I thought this guy sounds like a whiny bitch. The second half of the video made so much sense and resonated. In the end you have to do what makes you happy and if idiots like me who sit around and watch UA-cam videos all day are angry that they won't be able to see any new videos then they just need to get over themselves. We live in a very selfish time where people only think about what's best for them. Good luck and your future endeavors and perhaps one day there will be a hole that mountainbiking will once again fill.
Blue for me pls
theres one major factor here that doesnt get enough credit. I'd want one because they look sick af. lol
I think this series ignore the hardtails too much. It cost less, is easier to maintain and many of us do not ride trails at speed or trails as gnarly as the pros.
It’s a blast when my dad and I (22 years old rides a ton) can go ride together and be about the same speed. E bikes are great for the community and is helping grow the sport exponentially
Miss Paul. Hope he’s good.
Awesome vid, i got a heavy buddy that wants to cycle again, any suggestions for 300lb plus rider, this guy needs a bike 🚲. Thanks ride safe everyone 😊
I get more of a workout from my emtb through tight single track my bike is 60lbs lol. A lot to muscle around tight trails. I race road and gravel on my other bikes so the emtb is for workout, fun, and exploration!
About this bike, I’m putting a full SLX drivetrain in it. I hate the SX
She is not fast ....you are too slow....
There's a movie?
I ride now a E-bike for a month, i never had so much fun. its amazing. the pedal bike , is still waiting for me, but what can I say, he have to wait for a long long time... cheers.. greetings from holland.
$200 to go all the way out there and climb that tree and get that drone? These days people spend more to get a plumber to unclog a kitchen sink drain, that's nuts. I hope you gave him a good tip.
shorter travel = faster cornering... not just with bikes. that applys to cars and mostly just cars...
I have a "down country" bike, which is basically an XC full suspension bike with 120mm travel front and rear. Let me tell you... Yes, you can go really fast downhill, even with tech. They are super nimble when making sharp turns. They handle technical sections great. They climb beautifully! Just to give you some perspective: (do not subscribe btw, just showing how fast I go here on a 120mm along with tech riding) Also, I'm sure many others can go way faster. Speed is your friend, and your enemy. lol ua-cam.com/video/Wpc7x6ZyYN0/v-deo.html However, I still want an enduro 160-170mm travel cuz I want to go fast on BIG chunk and do big jumps. But you can't go wrong with an XC bike as a starter.
IMHO people should focus more on their skills and having fun, expensive bike or bigger travel wont necessarily make you a better rider or be more fun, remember the old days when we were young and free what bikes we had - well yes one speed bicycles but was it fun?
XC is for dorks who like climbs. No thanks.
Congratulations❤❤
Since when is 3500 a value bike
Hi Paul Does a trail bike suitable for a long distance race like 150k for example? I got a neuron 6 with 140mm travel in front ad 2.4 tyres. Im not interest on getting podium , only finishing races and enjoy the day on the saddle. Thanks for your time
Been looking at sparks recentley , the 130 mil travel ones , very clean looking bike with the hidden shock. Its on my final list
Xc bikes have become trail bikes trail bikes have become enduro bikes and enduro bikes have become dh bikes
Stumpy evo, 160 mil travel 150 on the rear, a trail bike. 16.5 kg. Scott ransom 170 mil travel with the ability to lock it to 120 mil from the bar 15 kg full fat enduro. The line has become very blurred between trail and enduro.. most trail bikes you can slacken the headset sometimes slacker than an enduro. Trail bikes are the 3nduros of yester year. Another 20 years enduros will be trail bikes downhills will be enduros and dh bikes will be a thing of the past, you see xc bikes up in the 130 mil of travel range now. Thats more than my full fat stumpjumper trail bike had new 10 years ago. Everythings changed
A high tavel trail bike does not feel like a completely different bike from a trail bike. 90 percent of joe public wouldnt know the difference wouldnt notice the different
Its like this guy sounds like he doesnt want people to have an enduro, if you want a nimble bike get the smaller size
